At 53, this drop-dead gorgeous, vivacious and rocking former Bollywood queen refuses to look back into the past. “Whatever I am and feel, is reflecting on my face, need I say more? I have become more aware and more responsible.My priorities are clearer today,” she replies to our birthday question.
Talk about being Bollywood’s definitive love goddess gets Rekha to drawl, “I am real, my motto is not to allow myself to stagnate in any which way.” Rekha declines to admit that she is a “brand” still being “sold” because she continues to live in the hearts of millions of fans. She is starring in Hema Malini’s production with Esha Deol, another with Shabana Azmi titled Sadiyaan. “I don’t believe in either selling or marketing myself. I don’t attach any importance to materialism,” she explains.
What about settling down, having a husband and children? She sighs, “If I had a husband and children, I would have been sidetracked. I wouldn’t have been able to reach out to the millions of people who love me. I feel blessed that I have my loved ones and that my friends look upto me.”
It is Amitabh Bachchan’s birthday today, will she wish him? She says, “I know that prayers work. And my prayers on this occasion would be that God grants him, peace peace and more peace. Because nobody deserves it more than him.”
